Exercising to Help Mental Health.

Today has been a really good day because I did my first major bit of aerobic exercise, and it made me feel great.

Most people I have spoken to, and most of the books I have read, say that exercise is a really important part of dealing with anxiety and depression.

My anxiety made it difficult for me to do things; I knew in my head what would help but actually doing it was a different matter.  When I contemplated exercise it was a real struggle to put anything into action, a hypnotherapist suggested I found somewhere with a punch bag so that I could release my anger, but this would have meant going to a gym which would then have meant being around other people, which is something I struggled with.  Throw in the fact that I could not afford a gym membership and that was the end of that idea.Continue reading “Exercising to Help Mental Health.”

Understanding Anxiety, Panic and Depression: Part 3 – Depression

 

Definition:

  • Feelings of severe despondency and dejection.

Everyone has times when they think they feel depressed, it is a bit like when someone has a common cold, they say they have the ‘Flu’ or even worse ‘Man Flu’!!!!

Normally when people say they feel depressed, it is because they have feelings of being ‘Fed Up’, feeling sad or having a low mood; this generally lasts for a couple of days.

Understanding Anxiety, Panic & Depression: Part 2 – Panic

Definition:

  • Sudden uncontrollable fear or anxiety, often causing wildly unthinking behaviour.

Understanding Anxiety, Panic & Depression: Part 1 – Anxiety

Definition:

  • A feeling of worry, nervousness, or unease about something with an uncertain outcome.
  • A nervous disorder marked by excessive uneasiness and apprehension, typically with compulsive behaviour or panic attacks.
